Calculate totals and show an order summary

Display products, quantities, and the amount due before customers submit a Neartail order.

Show customers the amount their selections produce before they commit. Keep the product subtotal separate from tax, delivery fees, discounts, and the final amount due.

Two $8 bowls and one $4 small soup produce a $20 product subtotal.

Start with correctly priced products

Open each product and check its selling unit, price, and option prices. A wrong product price cannot be repaired by a correct total formula.

For a generated menu, review every price and currency. Generation can introduce defaults or interpret the source differently from the way your business sells.

Use a calculated total

A generated ordering form may already contain a total field. Open its settings and review Answer → Calculate. Use the form's field picker and supported functions to maintain the calculation.

TOTAL() sums product amounts. QUANTITY() totals ordered quantities. These are different values: our three items cost $20, and a weight-based item may use a fractional quantity.

For the older Google Forms price-description setup, TOTAL(currency) identifies prices by their currency marker. For example, TOTAL("$") uses matching dollar-marked prices. Keep descriptions and choices consistent with that marker. See Neartail's TOTAL guide.

Build the final amount

Choose which components your business uses:

Final amount = product subtotal + delivery fee + tax − discount

Use separate fields when that makes the components easier to review. Insert field references with @ rather than typing their identifiers. A discount field can hold the discount amount; subtract it once from the subtotal.

See shipping, discounts, and tax calculations for those components.

Show the summary

Use the form's order-summary or bill field to display selected products and quantities. Supported calculation functions include SUMMARY() and BILL(); choose the output appropriate to the field and layout. Include customer or handoff information where it helps review.

Check a known order

Test no items, one item, several quantities, variants, and removing an item. For Willow Kitchen, two bowls at $8 and one small soup at $4 must give a $20 subtotal. Check the saved response as well as the preview so the amount your team sees matches the customer selection.
