Let customers pay later
Collect an order or request first, explain the next payment step, and follow up from its response record.
Pay later is useful when you accept an order before invoicing, collect money at pickup, or need to confirm the final amount after weighing products. Make the arrangement clear before customers submit.
Set the customer expectation
State when payment is due, which methods you accept, and whether the order is confirmed immediately or after payment. Include any pickup or delivery instructions that depend on payment.
For example, a bakery could accept a preorder and collect payment at pickup. A caterer could review a request and send the final payment instructions separately. Those are different business processes even if both start with a submitted form.
Configure and check the flow
- Add the customer details and order selections you need.
- Show the amount or clearly explain that a final amount will follow.
- In the payment configuration, enable the available pay-later choice if you want customers to choose it alongside other payment routes. If the form collects no online payment, leave automated collection disabled and state the agreed payment process.
- Add the next step to the submit message and confirmation email.
- Preview the form and confirm that a customer can understand how to finish paying.
Handle the submitted order
Use the response record to track follow-up. Keep an unpaid order in the fulfillment stage appropriate to your business. When payment arrives, check it and update the payment information separately from the preparation or delivery status.
If a staff member changes the items or weight after submission, review the amount again before requesting payment. An edit to an order does not by itself charge a customer or issue a refund.
